Morocco

Morocco is one of those places that feels a world away, yet it’s just a short hop from the UK or Europe. It has that magical long-haul vibe—exotic, colourful, full of adventure—but without the long flight or hefty price tag. It’s perfect for winter sun, with a climate that makes you forget it’s still chilly back home. And the food? Absolutely incredible—especially if you’re vegetarian (which can be a challenge in some destinations!).

What we love most is how much variety Morocco packs in: you can surf Atlantic waves, hike through the Atlas Mountains, ski in the winter (yes, really!), or sleep under the stars in the Sahara. We’ve been a few times now, but our favourite place was Essaouira—which turned out to be one of our favourite short breaks ever.

When I speak to people about Morocco, they are sometimes hesitant about it, wondering if it’s safe with children and for women. I can only speak from our experience, and no travel is completely risk free, but we LOVE it. It is true that Marrakech can be quite hectic (brilliant but hectic) but outside of Marrakech, in cities like Rabat and Essaouira, it has a different vibe altogether – calm and welcoming . Morocco is also a brilliant place to start more adventurous travel. Unlike long haul destinations, you can go for a few days to try it out and see if it’s for you. Budget airlines fly there from across the UK so it’s never been easier to give it a go.

We’re heading back again just after Christmas 2025 for another Moroccan adventure, so stay tuned for more soon…
